Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Why Fresno Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning
Alcott Chimney Fresno provides independent Fresno Duraflex service including chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair across Fresno, CA. We’re not a factory-authorized dealer, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we are is a local crew that has pulled, swept, and rebuilt enough DuraFlex liners in Fresno homes to know exactly how they behave in valley summers, wet winters, and everything between. Call (559) 215-1714 for a free estimate on any DuraFlex service.
DuraFlex makes some of the most specified stainless and aluminum liner systems in the residential chimney trade. You’ll find their products in thousands of Fresno fireplaces, from original brick chimneys in the Tower District retrofitted with 6-inch SS liners to newer gas inserts venting through DirectVent Pro coaxial systems. The brand earned its reputation by building components that twist-lock together cleanly and hold up under real heat. But “holds up” doesn’t mean “never needs attention.” A liner is only as good as the creosote load it’s carrying, the connection at the appliance adapter, and the cap keeping rain out. That’s where we come in.
Our DuraFlex work is different because we approach every liner as a system, not a tube. We inspect the corrugations, the tee snout, the top plate, the locking bands, and the cap. We clean what’s cleanable. We flag what’s failing. And we give you a written price before any work starts, so there’s no mystery when the invoice arrives.
Why Trust Alcott Chimney Fresno for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?
Ruben Castellano grew up in Los Angeles and learned his trade fundamentals at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending nearly two decades working chimneys across California. He’s seen DuraFlex liners installed correctly, installed badly, neglected for twenty years, and babied by meticulous homeowners. That range of experience matters when your liner is showing symptoms that don’t match anything in the manufacturer’s generic documentation.
Our technicians work on DuraFlex products every week. We know that the SS line’s corrugated profile traps creosote differently than a smooth-wall rigid flue. We know that the AL line, while rated for gas, warps under heat loads it was never sized for. We know that DirectVent Pro coaxial venting has specific clearance and termination requirements that get ignored on retrofit jobs. This is hands-on, rooftop-level knowledge, not a spec sheet memorized from a PDF.
We use genuine DuraFlex components when repairs call for them. Top plates, rain caps, locking bands, tee snouts, splice kits. The brand’s twist-lock seams and odd-angle connectors don’t reliably mate with generic duct, and we won’t gamble your fireplace’s safety on a part that almost fits. Every repair carries our written guarantee: if it fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free. Every job starts with a written price. And every technician who shows up at your door has been background-checked, identity-verified, and announced to you by name and photo before arrival. That’s the Threshold Standard, and it’s non-negotiable.
As an independent service provider, we have no factory ties to protect. If a DuraFlex liner is beyond saving, we’ll tell you. If it needs a $40 splice band instead of a $2,000 replacement, we’ll tell you that too. “Tell me what you’re seeing and I’ll tell you what it actually means.”
Styles & brands we work with

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Fresno
- Corrugation tear at the tee snout connection. This is the failure we see most often on early DuraFlex SS installations in older Fresno fireplaces, particularly in 1970s and 1980s homes around central Fresno where the original installer connected the liner to the appliance with a rigid tee snout. The liner flexes with thermal cycling; the snout doesn’t. Over years of heating and cooling, the corrugation at that junction fatigues and tears. The symptom is usually smoke smell in the room during startup or a draft that never seems strong enough. The fix is cutting out the torn section and installing a proper DuraFlex splice band and tee snout.
- Creosote glaze bonding to the liner’s inner corrugations. Fresno’s winter inversion pattern means wood-burning fireplaces often sit cold and damp for weeks, then get fired hard during a short cold snap. Burning wet or unseasoned wood at low temperatures produces a dense, tar-like creosote that bonds to the corrugated profile of a DuraFlex SS liner instead of flaking off as soot. This glaze narrows the flue diameter, kills draft, and is the exact type of creosote that sustains a chimney fire. Rotary chain cleaning removes it. A flat wire brush won’t touch it.
- Improperly sized aluminum liner warping under gas insert heat. The DuraFlex AL line is a solid product for its intended use: venting natural gas or propane appliances at the temperatures those appliances actually produce. But we regularly find AL liners in Fresno that were sized too small or installed without checking the appliance’s BTU output. Under sustained heat, the aluminum warps and deforms, creating gaps at the seams that let flue gas blow back into the home. If you’re upgrading to a larger gas insert or have been running an older one hard, the liner needs to be checked for distortion.
- Liner slippage at the top plate when the locking band was omitted. DuraFlex liners are designed to be secured at the top plate with a locking band that keeps the liner from shifting. When an installer skips that band, the liner can slip down over time, pulling the rain cap off-center or letting the liner drop below the flue tile. In Fresno’s older masonry chimneys, where the top plate often sits on irregular brick, this is more common than it should be. The symptom is usually a rattling sound in windy weather or a cap that looks crooked from the street.
- DirectVent Pro termination problems on Fresno’s newer subdivisions. The north and east edges of Fresno are full of newer homes with prefabricated chimneys and gas fireplaces. DuraFlex DirectVent Pro is the standard coaxial venting choice for these setups, but the termination cap needs proper clearance from soffits, walls, and grade. We see a lot of installations where the cap is too close to a venting eave or has been pushed off-level by roof work. That affects combustion air intake and can cause the fireplace to burn poorly or shut down.
DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
We stock genuine DuraFlex components on our trucks: top plates, rain caps, locking bands, tee snouts, and splice kits for common liner diameters. Because Fresno has so many 6-inch SS retrofits and a growing number of DirectVent Pro installations, those are the parts we carry most. If a job needs something we don’t have on hand, we can typically source it within a day or two from our local supplier network.
Our repair-versus-replace line is simple. If damage affects more than 25% of any 10-foot run of liner, we recommend replacing that run. Below that threshold, isolated tears and corrosion spots can often be repaired with a DuraFlex splice kit, as long as the host chimney structure is still sound. We don’t patch a liner that’s failing because the masonry around it has shifted or cracked; that’s treating a symptom. And we never recommend replacement without showing you exactly what we found during the inspection. Every camera inspection includes a photo report you can see for yourself.
Abandoning a chimney altogether is sometimes the honest answer, especially in older Fresno homes where the original flue tile has failed and the fireplace gets used once a year. If you need Duraflex repair in Clovis, we serve that area too. If the right call is a repair, we’ll say so. If it’s a replacement, we’ll quote you the real number and explain why. Call (559) 215-1714 and we’ll start with the inspection.
Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We start with a visual inspection of the liner, top plate, cap, and appliance connection. If we suspect damage inside the liner, we run a camera down the flue. You see the footage. We point out glaze, tears, slippage, or corrosion. No vague language.
- 2
Written price. Before any work starts, you get a line-item price. Cleaning is one number. Repairs are itemized separately. If we find something during the job that changes the scope, we stop and call you. There is never a surprise charge at the end.
- 3
Repair or install. For cleaning, we use rotary chains on glazed DuraFlex SS liners and the appropriate brush for AL liners. For repairs, we use genuine DuraFlex components. For installations, we follow the manufacturer’s clearance and termination specs exactly.
- 4
Verification. Every DuraFlex job ends with a draft test. If you reported smoke spill, we confirm it’s resolved before we pack up. For repairs, we photograph the completed work so you have a record.
- 5
Written guarantee. Every repair carries a written guarantee. If it fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it applies to every DuraFlex repair we complete in Fresno.

AfterDuraFlex Products We Service & Install in Fresno
We work on the full residential DuraFlex lineup. The SS stainless steel flexible liner is the one we see most often in Fresno’s older masonry chimneys, typically in 5.5-inch and 6-inch diameters. The AL aluminum liner shows up in gas fireplace and furnace retrofits. DuraFlex Pro, the multi-ply heavy-duty liner, is common in high-efficiency appliance installations where the flue gases run hotter than standard. And DirectVent Pro coaxial venting is the standard choice for newer gas inserts and direct-vent fireplaces throughout Fresno. We stock common components for all four lines locally, so most repairs don’t require a second trip.
We Also Service These Brands
While DuraFlex is a specialty for us, it’s not the only liner brand in Fresno chimneys. We also service HeatShield resurfacing systems for deteriorated flue tiles and Gelco liners in older gas installations. Our job is to keep your chimney safe and functional, whatever brand is in there. If you’re not sure what you have, the inspection will tell you.
FAQs – DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Service in Fresno
No. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider with no factory affiliation. That means we have no incentive to sell you a replacement when a repair is the right call, and no conflict of interest when we tell you a liner has outlived its useful life. We work on DuraFlex products because Fresno homes have a lot of them and we know the systems well.
Yes, when the repair calls for them. We carry genuine DuraFlex top plates, rain caps, locking bands, tee snouts, and splice kits. The brand’s twist-lock seams and odd-angle connectors don’t reliably mate with generic duct, so we don’t gamble on aftermarket substitutes. For non-structural items like caps, we’ll occasionally use an equivalent from a trusted line like Olympia Chimney or Copperfield, but only when it’s a proper match for the existing DuraFlex system.
A standard DuraFlex chimney cleaning in Fresno takes 45 to 90 minutes depending on the creosote load and liner condition. A repair like a tee snout replacement or splice band installation can add another hour or two. A full liner replacement is usually a half-day job. We’ll give you a realistic time window when we provide the written price, and we don’t leave a job half-finished.
We service and install the DuraFlex SS stainless steel flexible liner, the AL aluminum liner, the Pro multi-ply heavy-duty liner, and the DirectVent Pro coaxial venting system. That covers nearly every residential DuraFlex application you’ll find in a Fresno home, from 1920s bungalows with original brick fireplaces to 2010s subdivisions with prefabricated direct-vent units. We also provide Duraflex service in Madera for homes outside the city.
No. The DuraFlex warranty covers manufacturing defects in the liner material, not the routine cleaning and maintenance that every chimney system requires. In fact, skipping regular cleaning can contribute to the exact conditions, like creosote glaze and corrosion, that lead to premature liner failure. We service the liner without modifying it in ways that would void coverage. If your liner is still under the manufacturer’s warranty period and we find a defect, we’ll document it so you can pursue a claim. Call (559) 215-1714 if you’re unsure whether your liner is still covered.
A standard DuraFlex chimney cleaning in Fresno typically runs $189 to $329 before any repairs, depending on the liner condition, creosote level, and access. If we find glaze that requires rotary chain cleaning, that’s at the higher end. Repairs are quoted separately, line by line, after the camera inspection. We provide a written price before any work begins, so the number we quote is the number you pay. Call (559) 215-1714 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
That rattle usually means the liner has slipped or the locking band at the top plate was never installed. In Fresno’s flatter, windier stretches, a loose liner moves inside the chimney cavity and taps against the flue tile or brick. The fix is usually repositioning the liner and securing it with a proper locking band. Call us and we’ll check it before the next windstorm.
No. The AL aluminum liner is thinner and softer than the SS stainless steel line. A rotary chain head that works perfectly on a glazed SS liner will tear up an AL liner. We use a poly brush sized for the application when cleaning aluminum. Using the wrong tool turns a routine cleaning into a liner replacement.
Soot wipes off with a brush and leaves a dry, powdery residue. Glaze is different. It’s hard, shiny, and bonded to the liner wall. It won’t come off with a standard brush. On a DuraFlex SS liner, glaze collects in the corrugation grooves and looks like black tar fill. If we can’t clear it with rotary chains, that’s a sign the liner may need replacement. The camera tells us which situation you have.
DirectVent Pro is a coaxial system: it carries exhaust out through the inner pipe and pulls combustion air in through the outer pipe. A standard single-wall AL liner can’t do that job. If your gas insert is a direct-vent model, it needs a coaxial liner or it won’t burn properly and will spill exhaust into the room. This is one of the most common installation mistakes we see in Fresno when a homeowner upgrades from a traditional gas log set to a sealed direct-vent insert.
It depends on where the dent is and how deep it goes. A shallow dent in the liner body that hasn’t cracked the corrugation or restricted the flue diameter usually doesn’t need repair. A deep crease that has split the metal or collapsed the liner against itself is a different story. That’s a replacement. The camera inspection will show us exactly what you’re dealing with, and we’ll show you the footage before recommending anything. Call (559) 215-1714 for a free estimate on an inspection.
