Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Gas Fireplace Repair in Fresno: What to Know First

HeatShield gas fireplace repair in Fresno typically runs between $225 and $600 for most component-level fixes, with same-week scheduling available for homeowners who call ahead. We’re an independent HeatShield service provider, so we’re not bound by manufacturer service-center pricing or scheduling delays. Ruben Castellano and our Fresno-based technicians diagnose the actual failure, show you what’s wrong before any work starts, and put a written price in your hand. If you own a HeatShield fireplace that’s clicking without lighting, burning with a weak flame, or shutting down mid-cycle, call (559) 215-1714 and we’ll tell you what it actually means.

How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • HeatShield Sapphire Series: thermopile voltage decay. The Sapphire line uses a standing pilot with a thermopile that generates millivolt current to hold the gas valve open. After 7 to 10 years in Fresno’s hard-water air, the thermopile’s output drops below the valve’s holding threshold and the fireplace shuts down without warning. We test millivolt output under load, replace with an OEM-spec thermopile where available, and confirm the valve holds before we leave.
  • HeatShield Ember Series: burner orifice clogging from fine dust. Fresno’s valley dust is relentless, and the Ember line’s burner orifices are small enough that dust combined with combustion byproducts creates a hard crust. The symptom is a lazy, yellow, uneven flame or a burner that won’t stay lit on one side. We pull the burner assembly, clean orifices with proper-sized reamers, and reset air-shutter settings. Never drill an orifice yourself. Oversized holes from improvised cleaning change the air-to-fuel ratio and create carbon monoxide risk.
  • HeatShield Hearth Series: glass gasket compression set. The Hearth Series uses a rope gasket around the glass panel that compresses over hundreds of heat cycles. Once it flattens, room air leaks into the combustion chamber, sooting up the glass and throwing off the flame sensor. You’ll see gray film on the inside of the glass that comes back within days of cleaning. We replace with OEM-density gasket material, not generic stove rope, because thickness matters here. Too thin leaks; too thick cracks the glass frame.
  • HeatShield Vista Series: intermittent pilot ignition module failures. The Vista line runs an IPI system with an electronic ignition module that doesn’t tolerate voltage fluctuation well. Homes in older Fresno neighborhoods with aging panels, especially around the Tower District, see module failures more often when line voltage sags during summer AC season. The fireplace sparks but won’t light, or lights and goes out at random. We test the module’s response to low-voltage conditions before recommending replacement, so you don’t pay for a new module when the real problem is the wiring feeding the firebox.
  • HeatShield Custom Hearth Series: decorative media blocking pilot assembly. Fire glass and ceramic log sets shift over time, and a few of the Custom Hearth setups we see have media that migrates toward the pilot. This interrupts the flame sense circuit and causes short-cycling. We reposition media to the manufacturer’s placement map, clean the flame sensor, and demonstrate the correct media pattern before we finish. This one’s often a simple fix that another company might turn into a control-board replacement. Tell me what you’re seeing and I’ll tell you what it actually means.

Our HeatShield Gas Fireplace Repair Process

  1. 1
You call, a person answers. Our dispatcher takes your call at (559) 215-1714, asks what the fireplace is doing, and books a window that works for you. You get the technician’s name and photo sent to you before the appointment.
  2. 2
On-site diagnostic, no tools in hand yet. The technician confirms your name at the door with photo ID, then stands at the fireplace and asks you to describe what you’ve seen. We test gas pressure at the valve, check electrical connections, and inspect the pilot assembly before touching anything else.
  3. 3
Written price before work begins. We identify the failed component or condition, explain what we found in plain English, and put the repair price in writing. No estimate-as-vague-range. You approve the number, then we start.
  4. 4
OEM parts where safety matters, quality aftermarket where it doesn’t. For gas valves, thermopiles, and safety sensors, we use HeatShield OEM or exact-spec equivalents. For cosmetic and non-combustion components like decorative trim or glass brackets, we’ll offer a cost-saving aftermarket option if it matches what the manufacturer specified. Nothing gets installed without your sign-off.
  5. 5
Repair and full-function test. After the fix, we run the fireplace through three full ignition cycles, verify flame color and pattern, check for gas odor around every fitting with an electronic sniffer, and test carbon monoxide levels at the glass for combustion seal integrity.
  6. 6
The guarantee goes home with you. Every HeatShield repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repaired component fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free. Not prorated. Free.

What HeatShield Gas Fireplace Repair Costs in Fresno

Here’s where most jobs land:

  • Thermopile or thermocouple replacement: $225 – $340 depending on whether the part is under the pilot assembly or a standalone component.
  • Burner cleaning and orifice service: $180 – $280, with more if significant disassembly is needed to reach the burner tray.
  • IPI ignition module replacement: $310 – $520, with OEM modules at the higher end and aftermarket drop-in replacements at the lower end of that range.
  • Glass gasket replacement: $165 – $240 including the correct-density gasket material and reseating of the frame.
  • Pilot assembly replacement (full assembly, not just a sensor): $280 – $450 depending on the HeatShield series and whether it’s a millivolt or IPI system.

Diagnostic fees of $89 apply when you choose to proceed, and that amount is credited toward the repair total. If we tell you the fireplace is beyond repair and needs replacement, we’ll say that plainly and won’t charge for the diagnosis. Call (559) 215-1714 for an exact quote. There’s no charge for the estimate conversation over the phone, and written pricing is in your hand before any tool comes out of the van.
